What You Need To Know!

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars in the back of your mouth. They usually come in between the ages of 17 and 25. Most people have four wisdom teeth, two in the upper and two in the lower jaw.

Wisdom teeth often grow in crooked, sideways, or otherwise misaligned. As they grow in, they can push on other teeth, causing problems of overcrowding and misalignment for them as well. As the wisdom teeth come in, they can be very painful. You’ll feel wisdom teeth pain at the back of your mouth, behind your molars. If you look into a mirror, you may even notice that your wisdom teeth have begun to poke through your gums. The area might also be red, inflamed and tender to the touch. Some people, however, don’t have any visible symptoms of wisdom teeth pain.

When Wisdom Teeth Become Impacted

It is not uncommon for wisdom teeth to become impacted. An impacted wisdom tooth is one which has not grown through the gum into the mouth or has grown only partway through and is in an abnormal position. This is an unhealthy situation and the tooth should be removed to prevent problems with erosion, cysts, infection or crowding.

If your dentist says it’s time to remove your wisdom teeth. He may refer you to an oral surgeon, who will do the procedure in his clinic. It should only take a few days for you to heal and feel back to normal.

The cost of wisdom teeth removal is dependent on your individual circumstances. Factors such as which anesthesia was used and the nature of the extraction can have an impact on the overall price of the procedure.
